Apes have always had a special place at Stressed Ape Studios — the clue is in the name.

The Apes & Primates collection explores chimps, gorillas and other primates as expressive characters, combining portraiture with surreal, psychedelic and alternative influences. Some pieces lean towards humour or attitude, while others become elaborate masks, strange personalities or highly detailed portraits.

Their faces are particularly suited to this kind of work. Familiar enough to recognise emotion immediately, but different enough to become something unexpected when colour, texture and fantasy elements are introduced.
